Chris McKenzie Announces Retirement Later This Year; League Board Begins Nationwide Search for Successor

League of California Cities® Executive Director Chris McKenzie informed the League board of directors in late June that after 17 years in the position and 40 years in public service overall, he intends to retire from the post later this year. The board is conducting a nationwide recruitment for his successor, and the initial advertisement of the availability of the position has just occurred.

League Health Benefits Marketplace Webinars for HR Directors Wednesday, Aug. 31 and Thursday, Sept. 1

Cities are invited to participate in two upcoming League webinars about the new healthcare and OPEB liability cost-reduction option that is now available to cities through the League’s Health Benefits Marketplace (HBM). The HBM Active Employee Solution Basics for HR Directors will be held on Aug. 31 and the HBM Retiree Solution Basics for HR Directors is scheduled for Sept. 1.

Legislation Undermining Local Ability to Address Vehicle Habitation Revived in Last-Minute Play

Legislators Should Vote “No” on AB 718

AB 718 (Chu), a bill that would undermine local ability to enforce ordinances or penalties on individuals living in their vehicle is now eligible for a vote on the Senate Floor. The measure, which failed last year on the Senate Floor, remained on the Inactive File for all of 2016, only to be revived last week.
