Lawmakers wrapped-up the first half of the 2013–14 legislative session and adjourned early Friday morning after passing some highly contentious measures to Gov. Jerry Brown. Overall, of the nearly 2,500 measures introduced this year, 1,090 measures reached the Governor — half of which were sent just this week.

Legislative efforts to establish a statewide regulatory scheme for medical marijuana took a number of forms in 2013. The last of these was a pair of last-minute gut-and-amend attempts to radically limit cities’ ability to regulate medical marijuana facilities — with the second and final attempt fizzling out late last night.

The deadline to register for CalPERS 14th annual forum is fast approaching on Oct. 11. The conference, Oct. 21–23 in San Jose will feature focus groups, new sessions, keynote speakers, exhibits and leadership training.
