League Priority Bill Update

Approximately 450 bills currently await Gov. Jerry Brown's action before the fast-approaching Sept. 30 signing deadline. Of those bills, 21 League-supported bills and six League-opposed bills remain pending on the Governor's desk. As of this week, he had signed five League-supported bills and signed two League-opposed bills.

National League of Cities and League of California Cities Executive Directors Invite California City Officials to Upcoming NLC Meeting in Austin, TX

The National League of Cities (NLC) annual Congress of Cities conference is less than two months away and will be held Nov. 19-22 in Austin, Texas. Clarence Anthony, NLC executive director and Chris McKenzie, League of California Cities executive director, are preparing for this important four-day event and invite California city officials to join them in Austin. The partnership between the state leagues and NLC was established at the NLC’s founding and remains stronger than ever.

League Offers AB 1147 (Massage Therapy Act) Implementation Webinar

Gov. Jerry Brown signed AB 1147 on Sept.19 and the law will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2015. What does this change in law mean for cities? Many cities are considering updating their ordinances to reflect this new statute. The League is offering a webinar on the implementation of this new bill.

The League of California Cities is excited to announce the return of the Mayors and Council Members Executive Forum. The 2015 Mayors and Council Members Executive Forum and Advanced Leadership Workshop will be held June 24-26 at the Portola Hotel in Monterey. This educational conference is geared toward supplying Mayors and Council Members with the tools they need to serve their community.

California City Solutions: Irvine’s Public-Private Partnership Contributes to Development of Master Urban Planning

HUD Launches $1 Billion National Disaster Resilience Competition

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) last week announced a $1 billion National Disaster Resilience Competition. These funds will be available to communities that have struck by natural disasters in recent years. Interested cities can participate in Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Academies to help strengthen their funding proposals. March 2015 is the deadline for the first phase.
