Cities Urged to Take Action in Support of Federal Marketplace Fairness Act

Action Must Occur Before 113th Congress Adjourns

California city officials have an opportunity to advocate for a legislation that makes tax collection mandatory for online retailers when their representatives Members of Congress will return to the districts during next week’s Congress Thanksgiving recess. The Marketplace Fairness Act (S.743) passed the Senate in May 2013 but the introduced House version (H.R. 684) has yet to move. The legislation will die if the 113th Congress fails to act before the end of the year.
