Torch Program Recognizes Dedication to Continuing Education and Service

Deadline to Apply is Sept. 1

August 10, 2017
The League of California Cities’ Mayors and Council Members Department honors the hard work and dedication of its peers through the Torch Program

This voluntary and self-reported program is for elected officials who are seeking continuing education to enhance their own knowledge and skills in order to better serve the public.

Each year, officials from throughout the state earn recognition as they progress upward through three sequential levels of achievement:
  • Level I — Leadership;
  • Level II — Advanced Leadership; and
  • Level III — Leadership in Action.
Elected city officials who complete the mayors and council members continuing education Torch Program can be recognized by the League in a variety of ways.

To honor your achievements, a recognition ceremony before your colleagues will be held at the department meeting at the League’s Annual Conference. Alternatively, you can choose to be recognized in your own city at an appropriate occasion and/or via a press release provided by the League. Upon completion of levels two and three, you will be awarded an Academy Graduation Certificate and lapel pin.

A list of mayors and council members who have received recognition since 2003 is available on the League website.

If you are interested in learning more about this program, or would like to receive an application and a full list of graduation requirements, please contact Caitlin Cole, conference program manager or visit www.cacities.org/TorchProgram.

Sept. 1 is the deadline to submit an application to be recognized during the Annual Conference & Expo, Sept. 13-15 in Sacramento.
