Governor Signs Bill Protecting Code Enforcement Officer

Less than a week after the bill reached his desk, Gov. Jerry Brown on Aug. 30 signed AB 2228 (Cooley) into law. Co-sponsored by the League and the Code Enforcement Officers, this legislation establishes the Code Enforcement Officers Standards Act.

Approval of SB 879 in Final Hours of Legislative Session Would Be Important Step in Solving Housing Crisis

Legislators Urged to Support SB 879

With just hours left before the close of this legislative session, the League is urging the Legislature and Gov. Jerry Brown to support SB 879 (Beall), the proposed $3 billion general obligation housing bond. Sen. Jim Beall’s (D-San Jose) measure recognizes the housing crisis and the critical role that the state must play in finding solutions. If approved, the bond would be placed on the November 2018 ballot.

Sept. 2 Annual Conference Registration Deadline Fast Approaching

Just a few days remain before the registration deadline for the 2016 League of California Cities® Annual Conference & Expo. If you cannot register by the Sept. 2 deadline, on-site registration will be available. The League hotel blocks have all sold out however, hotel rooms can be found through individual hotels and online hotel reservation services.

California Earned Income Tax Credit Questions and Answers Document Available for Grant Applicants

The Department of Community Services and Development (CSD) posted a Questions and Answers sheet following the release of its Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) last week, inviting interested parties to apply for funding to provide education and outreach services regarding the California Earned Income Tax Credit (Cal EITC). The League originally reported on this in the Aug. 19 issue of CA Cities Advocate in “California Earned Income Tax Credit Education and Outreach Grants.”
