Significant Majority of Local Revenue Measures Pass

Voters in the June 4, 2014 California consolidated election decided more than 140 local measures. Among these were 85 measures seeking approval for taxes or bonds. Ballots are still being counted and final results will not be known until later this month, but here are the preliminary outcomes. State Primary Elections Met with Low Voter Turnout; Open Primary System Sets Stage for November General Election

The close of California’s election last evening marked yet another primary where voter participation was significantly low. According to the most recent data from the Secretary of State (SOS), yesterday’s election had only 18.3 percent voter turnout. Typically voter turnout for primary elections is low with more voters participating in the November general election.

Calls Needed in Support of Massage Bill as it goes to the Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee

League-supported AB 1147 (Bonilla) is scheduled for its first legislative hearing in the Senate on Monday, June 23 when the Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee meets. The League is specifically calling on cities represented by members of the committee to voice their support for AB 1147.
